American Legion Ball Park Complex

With ten children involved in sports, Columbus Community Foundation founder Ivan Crossland, Sr., and his wife Virginia spent hundreds of hours at the ball fields during the summer months.  Because it likely felt like their home away from home, the baseball and softball fields held a very special place in the hearts of the Crossland family.

In conjunction with the Crossland Family Fund, Columbus Community Foundation helped renovate the American Legion Ball Park with a new concession stand, playground equipment, fencing, and parking–making it handicap accessible and a gathering place for the entire community.

Through a combination of advanced estate planning and memorial contribution recognizing the late Ivan Crossland, Sr., Columbus now has one of the finest ball-field complexes in southeast Kansas.

CCF has continued this partnership to provide ongoing renovation and maintenance, making the ballpark complex a source of pride to the community.

About the Columbus Community Foundation

Like the Crosslands, Columbus Community Foundation is committed to the continued growth of the Columbus community. Gifts to CCF provide the foundation resources for future projects like the Sports Complex scheduled to break ground soon. Your gift also provides hope for proposed projects such as a community center that would include a fitness center; walking track; organized activities including fine arts, dance, and other recreational activities; meals for youth and seniors; meeting and event rooms; and other activities identified by the community as important for physical and mental well-being.
